We will kick off the day by heading to Los Glaciares National Park. Upon arrival at the glacier, we'll begin at the main balcony and then explore the walkways at our leisure until the meeting time set with the guide. The walkways provide various viewpoints of the glacier, offering an amazing opportunity to marvel at this natural wonder.
For lunch, the Park features a service area equipped with a restaurant and a snack bar.
Next, we will embark on a roughly one-hour navigation on Lago Rico, which allows you to admire the icebergs that originate from the ice walls of the Perito Moreno glacier.
As we reach the southern end of the Canal de los Témpanos, the boat positions itself at a safe distance from the glacier wall, traversing its entire length. Frequently Asked Questions
The El Calafate Classic package typically includes accommodation with breakfast, airport-hotel-airport transfers, an excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park, a walk along the walkways, and a bilingual guide. It often offers additional options such as a boat trip on Lake Argentino (Nautical Safari or another tour) and optional activities like ranch experiences or a panoramic 4x4 excursion. Lunch and park entrance fees are generally not included and can be paid separately. Exact services depend on the chosen room category and dates. To avoid surprises, review the updated package details to see what is included, what is optional, and what local costs apply.
The tour package typically lasts 3 to 4 days, depending on flights and availability. For your information: Day 1, arrival in El Calafate and transfer to your hotel; Day 2, excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier with walkways and free time at viewpoints, with the option of a boat trip; Day 3, free day for optional tours (Ice Rivers, El Chaltén full-day tour, Estancia, trekking, or 4x4 excursion); Day 4, departure transfer. The order may vary due to Patagonian weather and logistical reasons. You will receive confirmation of schedules, pick-up times, and vouchers before traveling. Always verify the final itinerary in the official description.
Patagonia has a variable climate, but El Calafate is a year-round destination. Summer (November to March) offers milder temperatures, longer days, and more excursions; it's peak season, so it's advisable to book in advance. Autumn and spring offer colorful landscapes, fewer tourists, and good prices. Winter is cold and windy, with fewer services operating, ideal for those seeking tranquility. Regardless of the month, you can experience wind, sun, and rain all in the same day. Pack layers and plan your itinerary with some flexibility. The Perito Moreno Glacier can be visited year-round and remains spectacular.
To enjoy the excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier and the walkways of Los Glaciares National Park, bring layered technical clothing, a waterproof and windproof jacket, a hat, gloves, UV sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm, a reusable water bottle, and snacks. Hiking boots with non-slip soles are ideal. Also bring a camera with extra batteries, your ID, travel insurance, and cash or a credit card for entrance fees and expenses. The walkways have accessible sections; however, activities such as mini-trekking on ice may have age and fitness restrictions. Inform the agency of any special needs so they can coordinate a suitable tour.
Package bookings are made online or through a sales representative, with full payment or a deposit depending on current policy. Credit cards and bank transfers are generally accepted; upon confirmation, you will receive an electronic voucher and transfer schedules. Cancellation and change policies vary by season and provider: they usually allow rescheduling with prior notice and offer partial refunds; no-shows are subject to penalties. If Patagonian weather forces the cancellation of a boat trip or excursion, it is common to offer a date change or alternative. Please note that the entrance fee to Los Glaciares National Park can be paid locally and is not always refundable.
