Embark on this exclusive journey starting at approximately 7 AM from Calafate. After we're picked up from your hotel, we'll set out on the legendary Route 40 beside the Argentino Lake, crossing the Santa Cruz River. Our guide will share tales of Darwin and Fitz Roy, who navigated this river to nearby areas.
Next, we venture towards the La Leona River, traveling through its canyon for about 1 hour and 15 minutes until we reach the historic Paso La Leona route hotel (practically a Route 40 museum), where you can enjoy coffee and homemade cakes. From there, we'll continue along Lake Viedma, with the Andes Mountains as our backdrop (including the Fitz Roy and Torre hills).
Before arriving at the town, we'll pause at the Viedma Glacier viewpoint, offering stunning panoramic views of the Glacier, the Cordillera, and the iconic Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.
After a 3-hour journey covering 220 km, we will reach the mountain village of El Chaltén. Upon arrival, we'll proceed to the starting point for self-guided trail walks that lead to the breathtaking viewpoints of Fitz Roy or Cerro Torre.
Our trekking guide will provide advice on the various trails based on your physical condition and provide trail maps. For lunch, you'll receive a boxed meal to enjoy on the trail, or we may dine at a restaurant, as determined by the guide upon arrival and depending on the weather.
Between 3 PM and 6 PM, contingent on the season, we'll regroup to commence our return journey to El Calafate.
